Russian antitrust studying Yandex, Google info for search ranging

VELIKY NOVGOROD, Sep 19 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service is analyzing information provided by Internet giants Yandex and Google for a preferential location of their resources when giving results of a search request, Yelena Zayeva, head of the IT department at the service, told reporters on Tuesday.

“All subjects of the market handed final information to us just a couple of days ago. Google postponed the deadline and has recently submitted the information. This is why we’re studying it now,” Zayeva said.

The antitrust service is checking the major market players, including Yandex and Google, for a preferential location of their resources during the search.

In late June, the European Commission fined Google 2.42 billion euros for abuse of the dominating position on the market of search engines, as the U.S. company gave preference to its own service Google Shopping when people searched for goods in the Internet. Google has 90 days to mend violations or it will face fees to the tune of up to 5% of an average daily world turnover of its parent company Alphabet for every day of law breaching.

The Russian service said earlier it was studying the European experience.
